Alright, I’ll admit it. I’ve been a bit distracted ever since those first sprouts made their appearance in the Greenhouse, and then came the arrival of baby goats, and then there was a new addition to the Bebee Hill orchard (raspberries!), and lots of strawberry weeding and mulching, and then I pulled out my summertime clothes, and a few days later I was wearing long underwear again!
And, who thought there could be so many holes to patch in the irrigation lines? And, do you think the wind will blow away the remay? And, oh my goodness, just how many more beds of carrots need to be thinned?!!
Really, though. The season is here and I’m learning something new every single day. My body is sore from planting, and I’m beginning to notice the start of a farmer’s tan. The cuffs of my pant legs carry soil from the field. I regularly check the weather forecast. I am amazed at how quickly seeds germinate in the Greenhouse. The sky looks different every time I remember look up. I can identify bird calls (well, a few). I am humbled by the constant reminders of change and new growth.
Summer ’09 and Fall ’09 Adamahniks, I miss your songs and smiles. Summer ’10 soon-to-be-Adamahniks, I cannot wait for you to arrive. So much goodness awaits.
